There has been a £1.1 billion investment by the MOD at RAF Sahwbury, creating 220 civlian jobs.
The Jupiter aircraft currently at Shawbury will be leaving in January. The Squirrel and Griffin aircraft will also be leaving in the new year therefore less noise.
If there are any upcoming events which would benefit from a possible flying ban such as pony club, lambing, fetes, weddings and funerals let Shawbury know in advance and they will try and avoid that area. Drone flying is on the increase in Shropshire and can become a danger to aircraft. There are guidelines laid down in the Civil Aviation Authority Drone Code - see website :http://dronesafe.uk/ . Information can be downloaded using the 'Droneassist' App which can be downloaded from the Naional Air Traffic Service or from the Droneassist website. Any drone operators or model flying clubs can notify RAF Shawbury of any planned activities or events on 01939 20351 Ext 7227 in advance and helicopter crews will be warned.
